This cake is great at breakfast, or with a cup of coffee in the afternoon. It takes very little time to make, so you can easily make this recipe on a weekend morning, and serve it for breakfast!
When you eat this cake, you taste the honey and cinnamon, which to me are perfect flavors for fall, when the temperatures are dropping, and it’s getting dark earlier in the day. I love curling up on the couch with a book, a cup of tea or coffee, and a slice of this delicious cake!

Preheat your oven to 180ºC (350F) in non-convection mode.
If you're using a regular loaf pan, butter, and lightly flour it. I used paper loaf pans that do not require this.
Sift together the flour, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves.
If your self-rising flour doesn't have salt added, this is where you'd sift in a generous pinch of salt.
In a bowl, cream the eggs and sugar together until pale in color.
Add in the oil and honey, and keep mixing until fully combined.
Add in ⅓ of the flour, and mix until fully incorporated.
Mix in ½ of the boiling water.
Add ½ of the remaining flour, and mix it through thoroughly.
Mix in the rest of the boiling water, followed by the remaining flour.
Mix until there are no more streaks of flour in the batter.
Add the batter to your loaf pan, and tap it on the counter a few times to remove any airbubbles.
Wipe up any batter that is on the sides of the loaf pan, as those will burn.
Baking the cake
Place the cake in your oven, on the center rack, and bake it for 30 minutes.
Test the cake with a toothpick or cake tester. When it comes out clean the cake is done.
If the tester doesn't come out clean, bake it for an additional few minutes and test again. (Repeat until the tester comes out clean)
