Brussels Waffles with strawberries and whipped cream hold a special place in my heart, evoking childhood memories of family trips to Valkenburg aan de Geul near the Belgian border. Our family tradition involved taking a train to Hautem St-Gerlach and enjoying waffles at de Geulemermolen before exploring Valkenburg. These waffles are distinctive for their light, airy texture and crispiness. The tradition of topping them with strawberries and whipped cream began in the U.S. in 1962.
